MXit Upgrades - New Release: v5.6.1

You might think we sit around on our butts all day admiring the view here in Stellenbosch, but you’d be wrong. OK we’d like to spend all day chatting to our friends on MXit, but hey, that’s just not our scene because we’re committed to bringing you more entertainment, more enjoyment and better versions of MXit on a regular basis.

So v5.6.1 was released on 27th May, 2008 and it features a number of general improvements, plus we’ve taken time to fix some bugs as well. Our developers have been busy - they’ve made 39 technical improvements in all. Too many to mention here. But here’s a selection pretty much picked at random from the 39 improvements. Email us, if you want to see the full list.

Got an N73? Well, the bug’s been fixed in the voice recorder. So has the hissing sound after playing an alert.

Own a Sony Ericsson K800? You’ll find there’s better error handling if your phone doesn’t have voice messaging.

For Nokia 6234 owners, we’ve fixed the bug where the memory card was inaccessible.

On a more general note, you can’t edit an invite of a contact anymore.

Inline editing: We’ve improved the positioning of the input mode frame, and the use of the dedicated “Cancel” key, if the phone has one. The back command now turns to Delete as soon as you type anything (this is useful for phones without a cancel key).
We’ve corrected the order of “?” and “!” characters for Sony Ericsson phones (Nokia has a different pattern).

Generally, there’s better file access support and recognition of audio types, and there’s an improved ability to distinguish between different vibes for certain Samsung phones, particularly E250, G600 and F250.

If a new contact is moved to a group, then the contact’s profile is set to the same profile as the group.

There’s better support when changing skins, (previously, new selection bars, headers and icons were not positioned correctly), and there’s better skin support for Motorola phones with a low memory.

But there’s more… much more. If technical specs are your thing, then email us at galactictimes@mxit.com and if you want the whole list of facts concerning future versions of MXit put into the GT, let us know. Don’t forget, the GT is your forum for the type of news and entertainment YOU want to read.
